Who the heck are these people anyway?
Missy & Karen met online in 2007 and decided they were some kind of cosmic twins right away. Soon after, they met Cheryl and realized that although cosmic triplets seemed unlikely, there was a definite connection! All three mavens are adoptive moms and are active in their local adoption communities.
Missy lives in New York with her husband, child, mom, brother and cat. She adopted her wonderful daughter, Abby, in a private, domestic adoption and is parenting transracially. She loves explaining the human side of adoption and coined the term “adoption doula” to help explain how she helps people new to adoption understand the process and the parenting. Basically, we’ll all breathe through this together.
Karen lives in Texas with her husband, son and daughter, and a series of presidential cats. (Current residents are Wilson & Truman.) Her son, Noah, came home in 2008, at five weeks, in a domestic agency adoption, through a program specifically for African-American and biracial children. Her daughter, Chloe, joined the family through the same program in May 2011. In between, she was a foster mother to three little ones. She considers herself one of the luckiest women in the world, first because she gets to be the Mommy to the two most awesome kids ever – but also because God brought so many amazing women into her life for support and guidance through the adoption process. Her sincerest wish is to now pass some of that on to other women.
Cheryl lives in New Hampshire with her husband, her daughter, two dogs and cat. Her daughter, Aeryn, was adopted at birth through domestic private adoption. Her family is blessed to have an open adoption with Aeryn’s birth family and she feels the adoption process was a crazy and incredible journey that has been both spiritual and transformative in her life. Now that she has settled into motherhood, the transformation continues because there is something new to learn everyday from her sweet little girl. As she continues on this journey, she hopes to share the lighter side of being an being an adoptive mama, while lending a hand, sometimes a laugh, and sometimes a shoulder, to those that are just starting out.
