For Katie

I remember almost every detail of what I was doing on August 7, 1998.  It was the day before I got married – and it was a gorgeous day!  We got married about 2 ½ hours away from where we lived, so that Friday, all of the people we loved most in the world were [...]

Introducing ... Cheryl!

Last month, the first anniversary of “Adopting Mamas” passed quietly.  Perhaps quietly is the wrong word.  Silently?

To make up for that, we’ve got exciting news this month!  We have a new Adopting Mama to introduce!

Our good friend, Cheryl, is joining us!

We’re super excited about this.  We both met Cheryl in the same online community that [...]

Adoption & Faith

Over the last few months, when I haven’t been “allowed” to post, I’ve been thinking a lot about the role of faith in adoption.

Honestly, I don’t know how people make it through without faith.

For me, my faith comes out of my Faith  – a specific dogma, if not a specific denomination.  My Faith is the [...]

Hello, Again!

I feel like I’ve been away from the blog forever! Miss me?

There’s much that has happened between the last time I was here and now – and, with great irony, I can’t talk about it all!

Suffice to say: it was very much related to adoption, it was very much the policy of the agency that [...]

Happy Adoption Month!

This month is National Adoption Month. In honor of the occasion, here’s a picture of a super-cute adoptive family.

Oh wait, that’s MY family! But we are pretty cute looking when we get all dressed up!

So in honor of National Adoption Month, please share your adoption story, or a picture of your family, or your connection [...]

Info on the Casey Adoption Tax Credit Expansion

The IRS has published the guidelines for the extended and expanded adoption tax credit.

Even if you’ve claimed the tax credit in the past, some things have changed (including, it would seem, the need to file a paper return as opposed to filing electronically.)

Would-Have Beens

I think we’ve probably all got them.  And the older we get, the more we have.  The “would-have-been” days.  Those days we stop and think about what life would be like if, well, life hadn’t happened.

This time of year holds a lot of those days for me.  June 24th would have been my grandfather’s birthday [...]

Let’s hear it for the Furbabies!

Please bear with me while I use the following post to do a little bit of saying good-bye – a little grief and catharsis to kick off the weekend.

Yesterday, after sixteen and a half years of unbelievably loyal service – my cat, Emma, didn’t come home with me from the trip to the vet.  It [...]

What did you think of the adoption on GLEE?

If you haven’t watched last night’s season finale, go ahead and watch it and come back for the discussion. Because this post includes spoilers!

All season long, Quinn  - former captain of the cheerleading team and former president of the Abstinence Club –  has been making an adoption plan. (Of course, this being TV, she’s been planning to “give [...]

Meeting new people and speaking the language

I’ve had the opportunity to make some incredible online friends during this journey that is adoption and adoptive parenthood. Some of my very best friends in the world are people I’ve only met in person once or twice. Some I’ve never seen face to face at all.

My fellow Adopting Mama, Karen is one such person. [...]
